The Convent of San Francisco was founded in the early sixteenth century. Throughout its history, it served as hospital and barracks, and housed an important textile manufacturing unit. Acquired by the Coimbra Municipal Council, the building was recovered and assumes its new vocation as Cultural Center and Congress.
Currently, the São Francisco Convent – Coimbra Culture and Congresses – Municipal Heritage is a multifunctional space that combines the economy, culture, knowledge and innovation to serve the development of the city, region and country. As a municipal structure that hosts and produces events in these diverse areas, it justifies a successful strategy, betting on the quality of the services provided and the presented programming.
