Dr. Philip S.L. BEH, was born in Malaysia and obtained his medical degree from The University of Hong Kong. He joined the forensic field in 1982 and had opportunities to train with the late Professors Hugh Johnson, Keith Mant and Dr. Iain West in the mid and late 80’s at St. Thomas’s and Guy’s Hospital Department of Forensic Medicine. He obtained the Diploma in Medical Jurisprudence in Clinical Forensic Medicine and Forensic Pathology in 1988. After 13 years of service for the Department of Health, he joined the Department of Pathology of The University of Hong Kong and is currently Associate Professor of Forensic Pathology. He also had the good fortune of learning from Professor Bernard Knight when he spent some time at Cardiff in the mid 90’s.
He is a Foundation Fellow of The Hong Kong College of Pathologist, The Hong Kong Academy of Medicine and the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians, UK.
He was President of WPMO (World Police Medical Officers) from 2005-2008. VicePresident of IAFS (International Association of Forensic Sciences) from 2002-2005.
He is a current Vice-President of INPALMS (Indo Pacific Association of Law, Medicine and Sciences)
He is a Member of the Forensic Advisory Group to the ICRC (International Committee of Red Cross.
He was recently made an Honorary Member of the Sri Lankan College of Forensic Pathologists.
He sits of the Editorial Board of several journals including:- Forensic Science International, Journal of Forensic and Legal Medicine, Medicine, Science and Law, Journal of Forensic Medicine Science & Pathology and the Romanian Journal of Legal Medicine.
He is an Honorary Adviser to Rain-Lily an NGO providing rape crisis services to victims of sexual violence in Hong Kong.
He is a Member of the Child Fatality Review Board for the Social Welfare Department, HKSAR Government.
He is Chief Examiner in Forensic Pathology for The Hong Kong College of Pathologists. He was the External Examiner for the MD in Forensic Medicine offered by The Postgraduate Institute of Medicine of The University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
