30 November

Departure, early in the morning, from Coimbra to Fatima.

The Shrine at Fatima is one of the most important landmarks in the Marian worship, drawing pilgrims from all over the world.

Cova da Iria, location of the Shrine of Fatima, had been an unknown place until 1917. That year, a religious event changed its history and importance for ever when three little shepherds, , witnessed successive apparitions of Our Lady of the Rosary. Not even unbelievers can remain indifferent when confronted by the Shrine’s spirituality and symbolism.

After this visit we continue to Lisbon.

We will start our visit by Belem quarter, the monumental section of Lisbon, and its monuments:  The Belem Tower (stop for photos and explanations), Discoveries Monument (stop for photos and explanations) and the impressive Jerónimos Monastery.
All these monuments represent the “Golden Age” of the Portuguese Discoveries, which began in the 15th century.
Driving to the opposite side of the city, we will visit the downtown area, the busy Rossio Square, the Comercio Square (also known as Black Horse Square) facing the Tejo River and the old Alfama quarter (walking visit through its narrow and tortuous streets).
